Sept 15, 2026 - Brain-Body Based Therapies (and Are They Psychotherapy?)

Join Marjorie Robb as we look at the newer brain-body based therapies, including Brainspotting (and perhaps some older ones). We will share some thoughts about the difference between these approaches and the "Evidence Based Psychotherapies" and consider whether there should be a different classification for these therapies.

Description

Most of the brain-body based therapies, whether new or longstanding, are not considered "Evidence Based Therapy" by bodies such as the American Psychological Association, which sets the standards at least in North America. However, increasing numbers of clients and therapists worldwide are finding these brain-body based approaches highly effective, often better than talk therapy, as more of the brain is engaged. We will look at the existing knowledge around some of these approaches, including Brainspotting, and consider how these increasingly popular approaches can best move forward.
