Dell Ducharme is a clinical psychologist. He resides in Winnipeg Manitoba. With over 40
years of experience, he has had the fortune of learning about assessment and
treatment from those he has had the privilege of walking beside. Through listening,
observing, and reflecting the concept of self-location has influenced his approach to
assessment and therapy. Conceptually, self-location is about connection - where and
who we are at any given moment in time and space. And where we are, is tied not only
to our connection to the past, present and future, but to the very laws of human nature
that guide us. In his presentation, Dell will share on his walk and his eventual arrival to
his current approach of supporting others in their journey of personal understanding and
development.
Overview of Presentation
As therapists, we engage in a process of supporting, healing, and growth. Through our
careers, we acquire and employ a variety of ways to effect change. Doing so regularly
involves interweaving between assessment and treatment, often guided by an over
arching ideology.
In this presentation, an approach or case conceptualization to healing guided by the
concept of self-location will be presented. Understanding the concept of self-location is
not only about knowing where we are at any given moment, but who we are based on
the very building blocks of being. In the universe, everything is made from the same
matter, and directed by shared laws and purpose. In knowing one’s self-location, one is
first required to first understand what we currently know about the very basics of human
nature. With this in mind, assessment reflects a continuous walk of discovery of where
and of who we are based on prior and current influences. Treatment, on the other hand,
is the clearing or removal of, or a bridging over barriers preventing natural growth and
potentiation. Returning to the very basics of life, and what we have discovered over
thousands of years in this regard remain foundational to supporting healing and is a
significant part of the presentation.
With adherence to the principle of uncertainty BSP, as an approach, connects well with
the process to be shared. As an intervention, BSP adheres to natural laws, with its
effectiveness resting on the most fundamental foundation of existence, connection.
